As part of Ohio’s celebration of America250, Middleton Township sponsored an art contest in which local students were invited to design a 5×7 postcard featuring patriotic or Middleton Township-themed artwork on the front, paired with a written note to residents 25 years in the future on the back. From an astounding 411 total entries received, we were proud to choose the three winning entries during our annual Community Safety Day event last Saturday:
- Grades K–4 Winner: Sydney Taylor (4th Grade, Otsego Local School District)
- Grades 5–8 Winner: Lillian Meek (7th Grade, Perrysburg Exempted Village School District)
- Grades 9–12 Winner: Ana Rodebaugh (11th Grade, Anthony Wayne Local School District)
- Honorable Mention: Liam Fiordalisi (11th Grade, Eastwood Local School District)
- Honorable Mention: Ava Coe (12th Grade, Otsego Local School District)
Each of our three category winners will receive an official certificate of recognition from Middleton Township, an America250 commemorative coin, a $100 gift card to Neezy’s Freezes, and display of their winning artwork in both their school building and the Middleton Township administrative building.
We were truly blown away by the incredible talent, creativity, and heart that went into every submission. With so many wonderful designs and thoughtful messages, choosing the top entries was an exceptionally challenging task for our judges.
Preserving History: A Message to the Future
Because every student wrote a note to the future on the back of their postcard, all 411 entries will be preserved and placed into a Middleton Township time capsule, set to be opened in 25 years (2051) during America’s 275th birthday celebration.
