A statewide petition is currently circulating to amend the Ohio Constitution to abolish all current and future property taxes in Ohio. If passed, the amendment would end funding essential for fire and EMS services, road maintenance and improvements, local schools, and cemetery upkeep. Additionally, the township will also lose money for its general fund, which covers daily operating expenses and personnel costs.
The proposal does not include a replacement funding source. The amendment, if passed by voters, will likely result in significant increases in local sales and income taxes and a massive shift to state control of moneys available to townships and counties. Eliminating property taxes means a loss of local control over how your tax dollars are spent.
Without property tax revenue, the township will face an immediate fiscal crisis for funding fire and EMS, road maintenance, general operating expenses. We encourage all residents and businesses to stay informed on how these potential changes will affect Middleton Township and Wood County community resources and safety.
